Sim Sweatshop

Okay, so you guys love to play games...this much I know for sure. Here's your chance. Put yourself in the shoes (no pun intended) of a sweatshop worker. Go to this Sim Sweatshop and try your luck - you'll find that completing the task required is not as easy as you think.

Now, how did you do? Comment with your score and your thoughts about the fairness of this horrific world.

  2. I worked for 2 weeks making shoes and then used all my money buying a pair of shoes.

  3. I worked for seven days before I lost all my money. I had to pay rent and work more which caused me to owe more money than I had. The game became hard when I lost my energy because I could not make as much money. This meant I could not buy food to replenish my energy. This system is unfair because it is extremely hard for the worker.

    1. My experiance is very similar to yours! I had a very hard time keeping my energy level up and at one point I had to buy a pair of shoes, which took all of my money. I totally agree that this is unfair and hard for the workers because this could cause unhealthy problems for their families like starvation.

    2. It's an endless cycle: if you want to make money, you need energy, and for energy, you need to use money to buy food. Which means you have to work more. This is extremely unfair, and I think most people that play this game get this experience.
I actually rejected the pair of shoes offer, and then I lost due to lack of energy. It's a no-win situation.

    3. Yeah I agree with Tabitha. But this isn't just a game to some people, it's actually their life, and they have to live it. That is incredibly saddening and very harmful to the body. Many of the people that work these conditions don't make it past 60 years old.

  4. I had worked for 5 days until I lost all of my money. I quickly ran out of energy and it became very difficult for me to work. When I couldn't work any longer I ran out of money trying to provide for my family and I. These are very difficult working conditions and no one should have to work like this.

    2. I had the same experience as you. I do think it's unfair for those who work in sweatshops.

    3. that is pretty much what happened to me.

  5. I worked for 3 days before running out of energy. I had spent all my money on food and drink to replenish myself, but when I ran out of money, I had to complete the task with poor vision and I didn't earn any money. The unfairness of this game goes to show that this is what it is like in the real world, and how people shouldn't have to work in conditions like this.

    1. I agree. After paying for food and water plus rent you barely have anything left, and the pay isn't enough to make them money back.

      Delete
    2. I agree that people shouldn't have to work in conditions like this. When I played, I was given the option to join a union or to have my workload doubled. When I joined the union, I was fired. If I tried to do the double work I was not able to finish it, and was paid to little to buy food to keep up my energy.

      Delete
    3. I totally agree with your statement. On day one, I was paid about two dollars. Yet, when I got to day two I had to keep replenishing my energy with a drink or food. After trying to keep my energy up for a while, I barely had any money left to even buy any more food. The conditions that these people work and live under is completely unfair.

    4. All of the conditions are unfair. It is hard to imagine what it would be like in real life.

      Delete
  6. I worked for four days before running out of energy. Most of the time I had to work with blurred vision and the rent caused a huge problem. This game shows how hard it is for factory workers and how little they get paid.

  7. I had worked hard for four days before running out of energy. The difficulty of this game proves how hard it is for all those people that work in those shops, and the unfairness shows how little they are paid...but how hard they have to work.

  8. I lasted about 2 day with only $00.8 left. Sim Sweatshop shows off how hard it is to work to earn so little. You also have to care for your family with such a small amount of money.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I had the same score. It was hard to care for your family while not making a lot of money.

    2. SAME!!! It's so unfair for these workers to work so hard and receive very little.

  9. It was very difficult to regain my focus with food and drink and I ended with $0.17. I did not see how many days I lasted.

  10. I worked for 7 days and at the end I lost all of my money. I could not work fast enough to keep my money and provide myself with food and water. Also the game made me work overtime for no wage increase and if you said no you would get fired, which was very similar to the people in book. I think that this is 100% unfair, and no one should have to survive conditions like this.

    1. I agree with Shali about the it being 100% unfair, but still people aren't doing anything to help those who struggle everyday with these problems.

    2. I agree that working overtime for no wage increase was very unfair.

    3. I also think it is unfair for people to have to work in such harsh conditions and get paid such little money while doing so.

  11. I worked hard for two days and I found the work very strenuous. I didn't think that the pay was nearly enough for the amount of work being put out. It seems impossible that anyone would be able to support a family on so little pay

    1. This makes a good point. The companies seem to make quite an amount of money and they should be able to spare even a few dollars more to their workers.

      Delete
    2. I agree with your statement on supporting a family with their pay. It seems unreal that people can actually do that in these countries. Companies need to start worrying about their workers.

      Delete
    3. I agree, you are trying your best to make shoes as fast as you can yet you aren't making as much as you should. You also aren't getting paid enough to keep your energy up

  12. I worked for 6 days and I had to forgo buying shoes for my 'daughter', which resulted in me losing energy and not being to replace it. I lost soon after that. The food and drink cost compared to the wage you can earn a day makes it very hard to keep your finances afloat. Though I did have a glitch when I tried again where at the end of the day, it would give me my wage over and over again even though it said I had been paid, so I waited, and I got $50... Yikes.

  13. I worked for 5 days before I ran out of money and energy. At a point I had to buy my ''daughter'' shoes but I couldn't afford so I had to attend to her sores. At another point I had to pay rent but I couldn't afford. This game shows the lives of the workers who work in sweatshops. I feel really bad for these workers because they are treated very unfairly!

  14. I worked for only 3 days before I ran out of energy because I ran out of money for food and water. In one point of the game, I was told that I had to work 4 extra hours but my wage wouldn't change. Its totally unfair that you work extra hours but you don't even get paid extra and its taking time away from your family. The amount you get paid is barely enough for just food and drink for just
yourself and thinking of having to support your family members, its just not enough for everyone.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I worked for four days and lost all of my energy. I had spent all my money on food and drinks to stay healthy. During the game I had worked over time and my wage increase hadn't changed. I got paid to barley feed myself and I had a family to support. It's so wrong for these workers to have to work in conditions like this and have to go to work even if they are sick so that their family is able to eat

  17. In the game, I only lasted until day 3. During the course of the game, my energy kept getting low and I was forced to either buy a drink or food so that it could make making the shoes easier. Though everytime I bought something, my income for the day would decrease. One thing that I thought was unfair was that I was given an amount of shoes to make during the day, and if I didn't meet that number, my salary would immediately be cut down for that day. When I finally lost the game i ended up with 15 cents. The amount that the people in sweatshops make is completely unfair and extremely low to build a family off of and keep a household running.

  20. I didn't even work three complete days until I lost all of my energy and didn't have enough money to pay for food or water. I had $00.22 left when I lost. 28. Im blown away by how the game shows how the workers are treated. That was so much more difficult than I thought it was going to be. I didn't get paid well and I didn't have much money for food or water, the most essential parts of human life. For people that work this hard, they don't need to be treated this way.

  29. i worked for 5 days an ran out of money when i had to pay things i need to survive like shoes, water, food, and rent. This shows that people working in sweatshops barely make enough to buy the bare nescitys which is awful.

  37. I started working and had good energy and was making decent money the first day, but by the 4th day i was quickly running out of energy and had started working more hours, in turn, causing me to lose a lot of energy that I couldn't replenish until all of my energy ran out. I feel it's completely unfair to have to make someone do extra work without paying them more for working the extra hours. I cannot believe that some people have to live like this and work like this. It would be incredibly hard to support yourself let alone your family.

  45. I was unable to play the game but after reading just how hard the game was i couldn't imagine doing it in real life. Many people couldn't even make it four days in this game because they were losing energy really fast. I think this shows how tasking factory can be.

  46. Unfortunately, when I clicked the link to play the game, it alerted me saying I needed a newer adobe flash. Although, from reading everyones comments about the game and their survival I have concluded that most people only survived about an average of 4-5 days. After seeing what everyone had to say about playing the game and the difficulties of working in factories, I have learned that the game was extremely hard for everyone. A game like this is something we can all use to learn about how hard it is to make a living in countries all over the world.
